The Surfing Competitions of today had its beginnings in Hawaii. The Makaha International Surfing Competition which was held in 1954 is the first surfing competition in the world. The championship in this competition was also the first surfing title in the world. This event is the standards for any surfing competition and title anywhere in the world. Now, there are separate competitions for Men, Women and Juniors. There are also different categories involved in some of the surfing competitions worldwide like the paddle board, night torch surfing, mat surfing, tandem surfing and body surfing.
Other Competitions
After 10 years, more surfing competitions were established in Hawaii and California. Some of these surfing competitions are Pipeline Masters, Smirnoff Pro-Am, and the Duke Kahanamoku. These surfing competitions each have their own titles. It was in 1976 when the first world tour was established. This was called the International Professional Surfing, which was later replaced by the Association of Surfing Professionals. They also created the World Championship Tour, and the World Qualifying Series. These competitions are anticipated along with the seasons, because there are peak seasons and swell seasons. These competitions offer the titles for the best surfers out there that are facing the best waves. Surfers who joins these competitions gets personal success, championship titles, endorsements and of course cash prizes.
Rules
The rules on surfing was created in 1978 due to the banning of some players in Surfing Waimea in Hawaii due to some complains filed four years before the rules were created. The city of Honolulu amended these laws governing surfing back in 1991. Now, it is the Association of Surfing Professionals is the governing body of the professional surfing in the whole world. They are also the governing body that gives the World Surfing Champion title award every year. They determine whom to give this title by looking at the points of the surfer during the events that are included in the ASP World Championship Tour Surfing. This award is given to the best surfer of the year.
World Championship Tour Surfing
There are six circuits included in the World Championship Tour Surfing. These are the World Master’s Championship (WMC), the World Junior Championship (WJC), the World Longboarding Tour (WLT), the men’s and women’s World Qualifying Series (WQS), the ASP Women’s World Tour and the Foster’s ASP World Tour.

Now there are a lot of surfing competitions in the world. Some of these competitions are held in some of the best surf locations in the world. There are also other surf competitions that are held in some of the developing surfing locations in the world. These surfing competitions have events for men, women, amateurs, professionals, body surfers, long boarders and many more.
